The Inglorious Bastards is a 1978 Italian war film directed by Enzo G. Castellari. Set during World War II, the story follows a group of American soldiers who, while being transferred to a military prison, find themselves caught in a German ambush. Opting to head to neutral Switzerland to escape both their military imprisonment and the enemy, the group gets entangled in a mission to steal a Nazi V2 rocket gyroscope. The film is known as an inspiration for Quentin Tarantino's 2009 film Inglourious Basterds, although the two movies are very different in plot and tone.
